It's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring.... Goodness but I have a chorus of humming coming from my barn. Wet and stuck in the barn are not two of my fuzzies' favorite things. They gave it a shot when the rain let up, but came back in soaked a little while later.... don't worry guys, it's supposed to change to snow later.

There's definitely a pecking order in this herd of mine, so when Suede and Rocky were ready to start eating grain I had to move them to the tack room. The big girls thought mom's milk was plenty for them, so they weren't allowed anywhere close to the feeders. You have never seen such big bodies block the way for my sweet baby boys to eat. Well, let me tell you- Suede and Rock have had the last laugh. Here are some pictures of the buddies eating to their hearts content....

Belle

On October 23, 2010 we finally had our first female cria born here on the farm. We've had 7 crias now, and until Belle they were all boys. They are all special- some more than others, but still all boys. Miss Belle had a rough start, she ended up at the vet's office getting an x-ray and then a cast within 3 hours of being born. I stayed outside for the first 2 hours of her life making sure she was dried off and was walking and then came inside the house to give mama and baby a chance to bond and maybe start nursing. I went back out into the field 15 minutes later and her right leg at the knee was bowed out. Yep, she had a fracture right above her knee so into a cast she went. It was the saddest site you've ever seen. This little bitty 13 lb baby in blue cast. She and Dixie (mama) got to live in a stall except for an hour a day in the catch pen for a 2 weeks. Her second week she got put in a purple splint and her third week she got to get out of the splint too. Let me tell you, that cast and then splint didn't stop her for a second. Her hour in the catch pen was spent running and jumping and kicking.

Well, Belle has been cut loose.... She and Dixie (mom) are out with the herd and she's running circles around all of them. She's either kissing the boys or chest bump them and they all outweigh her by at least 15 lbs. She is fearless. So, she's the queen of the fields and sometimes she's the beast. :) I'll post pics of her kissing Rock and then chest bumping him later.
